Step 1.- Choose protection
The first thing is to know what SPF means: it is the protection factor (time of sun exposure that you are protected) and to calculate it you have to know how long your skin can last in the sun without burning. Imagine that it is 10 minutes, because the number that accompanies the SPF, for example 50, tells you that you have 500 minutes to be in the sun. The count for the calculation would be the sun exposure time multiplied by the SPF number.
See how easy? As you can see, all solar products protect the same and only the exposure time changes.
We must also keep in mind that in summer we are exposed to situations in which water and sweat can cause our protection to be lost. So, even if they are long-lasting formulas, we have to repeat the application of sunscreen after around 40 minutes from the first time we put it on.
This way we make sure that we do not burn our skin.
And of course, there are countless formulas for solar products: lighter, more creamy, in spray or gel.
So our choice will be based on our needs or tastes.
Step 2.- Application
One of the most frequent mistakes is applying protection when we are already at the beach or pool. The protection needs time to be absorbed and fulfill its function, therefore, 30 minutes before going out we must apply sunscreen cream and we will be ready to sunbathe and enjoy.
We can choose protection that works for the entire body, including the face, or choose one specifically for the face, which is usually more nutritious and also includes treatment.
Let’s apply protection! We pour cream into the palms of our hands and heat the product with them until the texture becomes lighter due to contact with the skin and the heat it emits and we begin to distribute the product over the skin.
We recommend applying in areas, legs, torso and face. This way we won’t forget anywhere. Take special care in the areas that are most delicate, around the eyes, back, ears, eyelids and neckline.
And of course, don’t forget to protect your lips, which of course also burn and can cause the lip skin to be uneven, raised and dehydrated. For this we will use a balm that contains sun protection.
Lastly, don’t forget AFTER SUN. It will help you preserve the tan you have achieved and prevent burns and skin irritation.
